July : Bioethics

‘Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.’ 1 Cor 6:19-20

As our world becomes more scientifically-focused, new situations arise which we must carefully examine through the lens of Scripture.

By definition, bioethics is the study of the ethical controversies brought about by advances in biology and medicine. Areas of controversy can include abortion, artificial insemination, cloning, euthanasia, genetic engineering, life extension, life support, plastic surgery, stem cell research and surrogacy.

As in all matters, when investigating bioethics, we must turn to God’s Word, and not the wisdom of man.

God makes it clear that many aspects of life - including birth, longevity and death - are reserved for Him alone. ‘The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’ (Job 1:21)

Let’s pray for God’s Will to reign at all times in our society.

Let’s combat this ‘giant’ through:

  • sincere repentance
  • prayer & fasting
  • dedication to the Word
  • godly action
  • speaking truth
