February: Family Problems

‘Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses, so that your days and the days of your children may be many.’ Deut 11:19-21

God created us as social beings, reliant upon one another. But what happens when our relationships - especially those closest to our heart - go wrong?

This month we focus on the ‘giant’ of family problems.

Problems within families often begin at the top, when husbands and wives do not adhere to the distinct roles given to them by God. When a couple turn from God’s ideal for marriage, misunderstanding, infidelity and divorce can result, with great heartache for all. Let’s commit to surrendering fully to God as the head of our households.

Neglecting to discipline and teach our children causes many families to disintegrate. Scripture admonishes often the responsibility of parents to raise their children to know and fear the Lord. To do any less is to set our children ’s future on an unstable foundation.

We also need to guard our homes and hearts from the corrupting influences of poor role models, TV programmes, movies and music.

Let’s pray for strong families in 2008.

Let’s combat this ‘giant’ through:
1. sincere repentance
2. prayer & fasting
3. dedication to the Word
4. godly action
5. speaking truth
